Man in Kuching jailed eight months for abusing meth

KUCHING (Aug 15): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a senior citizen to eight months in jail after he pleaded guilty to abusing drugs.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali imposed the sentence on Chai Pit Khion, 64, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

The Section carries a jail sentence of up to two years or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and to be placed under immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years.

The court also ordered the accused to undergo supervision by the authorities for two years.

Chai was tested positive for methamphetamine at the Padawan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at around 5.10pm on Feb 27, 2023.

Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented by counsel.
