Man injured in Kota Sentosa assault caught on video

PADAWAN: A 28-year-old man was injured after he was assaulted by a known acquaintance and several others at an eatery in Kota Sentosa Bazaar on Friday night, with a video of the incident later going viral on social media.

Padawan district police chief Supt Barry William said police received a report on the incident at about 7.45pm on Sept 18.

“Initial investigations revealed the incident occurred at approximately 7pm when the victim was beaten using hands and hard objects.

“The assault is believed to have stemmed from a domestic issue,” he said.

He added that the victim received medical treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for external injuries to his head, back, arms, and legs.

Police are currently tracking down and identifying the primary suspect as well as others believed to be involved in the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

Following the circulation of the video on social media, Barry urged the public not to speculate, make assumptions or spread unverified information about the case.

He warned that disseminating false or inaccurate information could cause confusion and disrupt the ongoing investigation.

Members of the public with information related to the incident are encouraged to come forward and assist police in ensuring a transparent and thorough investigation.
