Man killed in accident on Salim Road

SIBU, 20 September: A man died and three others were injured in a road accident involving a vehicle at Kilometer 5, Salim Road, near Sibu Water Board, early this morning.

In the incident at about 2:25 a.m., the dead were identified as Herbert Augustine Andoh, 44, while three other victims were injured Frederick Jetie August, 33, Rodney Belayong Alexander, 28, and Handry Alexander, 39.

According to the Operations Movement Centre (PGO) of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak, a team from Sibu Central Bombing and Rescue Hall (BBP) arrived on site at 2.44am and found one victim trapped inside the vehicle.

"The bomb squad then used rescue equipment to remove the victims. The victim was successfully removed before being pronounced dead by Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) officials at the scene.

"Meanwhile, three other injured victims were sent to hospital for further treatment using two EMRS vehicles and a KKM ambulance", the statement said.

The deceased victim was later turned over to the police for further action.

The operation led by the I Salaini Oda Police Department involved eight members along with an FRT machine and an EMRS. The operation ended completely at 3:58 a.m. after the situation on site was confirmed safe and controlled.
