MIRI: A total 33 primary and secondary schools within the Marudi constituency continue to receive annual grants.

Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil reaffirmed his commitment during the Sekolah Kebangsaan St Columba’s Raya Gawai and Teacher’s Day dinner gathering on Saturday.

“I have never failed to provide grants to these schools. Each year, primary schools receive RM10,000 and secondary schools receive RM15,000. This is part of my Minor Rural Project (MRP) initiative, ensuring consistent support without the need for requests.

“I support 33 schools under the Marudi constituency. I also allocate grants to the 260 longhouses in my constituency, providing funds based on their needs and size,” he added.

Moreover, he disclosed that the Sarawak government allocates RM110 million annually to support the construction, upgrading and repair of places of worship for various religions.

Of this, RM2 million is designated for missionary schools throughout Sarawak, distributed through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).

During the event, Penguang also announced a specific allocation of RM10,000 to SK St Columba Miri.

The gathering was attended by the headmistress of SK St Columba, Eno Liau, the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA) chairman Jude Juda, and approximately 20 teachers, students and their parents.
