KUCHING (Aug 18) The ongoing Kuching Festival Food Fair 2024 has marked a milestone after recording over one million visitors on Friday (Aug 16), said Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

However, he noted that this achievement was still 70,000 short of the total number of visitors from last year.

“Last year, our Kuching Festival Food Fair registered a total of 1,113,744 visitors.  I hope more people will throng the food fair and together we can break last year’s record,” he said during his Facebook live session ‘Shall WEE Talk’ yesterday.

As of Friday, Wee said Kuching Festival Food Fair 2024 had received a total of 1,039,514 visitors.

He was quick to add that this figure had yet to include participants for other Kuching Festival-related activities such as the Zumba session.

The mayor pointed out that Aug 3 saw the highest number of daily visitors at 79,962, but this had not beaten last year’s daily highest record of over 80,000 visitors.

In order to break last year’s visitors record, Wee said at least 40,000 visitors each day would be required for the remaining two days (Aug 17 and 18) of the festival.

“I appeal to all to come and join our Kuching Festival Food Fair even if you have already made a visit or two. Do visit for the tantalising delicacies,” he said.

Separately, Wee said two rabies cases were recorded in the city over the last week.

He added that one of these cases involved a stray dog in Kampung Siol Kandis while the other involved a pet dog in Pending Heights.
