BAU, 5 Oct: Bau District Council (MDB) rose 58 places in two years to occupy the fifth best of 92 district councils across Malaysia through the Malaysian Local Authority Star Rating System (SPB-PBT) 2026.

The achievement enabled MDB to obtain a five-star rating with an overall score of 91.61 per cent, thus emerging as the best district council in Sarawak for the assessment.

Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak (Rivers and Seas) who is also a Member of the National Legislative Assembly (ADUN) Blue Lake, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said that this achievement demonstrates a significant improvement in the level of service delivery and governance of MDB.

"This achievement enabled Bau District Council to achieve a five-star rating, thus making Bau District Council the best district council in Sarawak.

"When the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) announced that Bau District Council is in fifth place in the countrywide ranking, this proves the performance of the council has reached a level comparable to local authorities across the country", he said.

He said this at a press conference on the occasion of MDB's five-star rating award in Bau, today.

According to Henry, MDB was previously ranked 63rd in 2024 before jumping to fifth place in 2026 thus showing a significant improvement in performance over two years.

He said SPB-PBT is a KPKT assessment system to measure the level of delivery of local authority services (PBTs) across the country based on uniform star grades.

He said MDB will continue to assess the implementation of the work and take into account public views and feedback in identifying room for improvement.

The effort is essential to ensure that the five-star achievement can be sustained, as well as continuing to strengthen performance, governance and quality of service to society.
