Media training for police mooted

KUCHING: The Kuching Division Journalist Association (KDJA) and Citrine One Borneo have proposed to conduct a series of media training sessions for the police to enhance their handling of media-related matters.

This follows a courtesy visit by KDJA and Citrine One Borneo to Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata at Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) today (Jan 31).

During the meeting, Citrine One Borneo communications director Jacqueline David and KDJA president Ronnie Teo discussed with Mancha and his team on various matters.

One of the key points discussed was a proposal to conduct a series of media training sessions for district police chiefs and public relations officers.

The training would focus on effective methods of sharing information, issuing police statements, and improving photography skills.

Furthermore, KDJA also informed Mancha about the upcoming National Journalists’ Day (Hawana), scheduled to be celebrated in Kuching on May 27.

The association also put forward the suggestion of organising public awareness talks on cyber-crimes, with the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) offering expertise in these sessions.

Also present were Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Wong Ing Fung, Sarawak Management Department chief SAC Awang Din Awang Gani, Sarawak Special Branch chief SAC Taufik Toh Abdullah, and KDJA members from Bernama, Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), TVS, and New Sarawak Tribune.
