BINTANGOR (Dec 28): Christmas gathering is among many ways to uphold tolerance, mutual respect and social harmony in a community.

In this regard, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing praised Liu Kwee Tang Central Sarawak Region Association for highlighting these values at its Christmas gathering here on Saturday.

“Christmas celebration is not merely a religious event, as it also serves as an important platform for fostering tolerance, mutual respect and social harmony in a community.

“This celebration is even more meaningful as it is being held in a friendly and cheerful atmosphere.

“The event reflects the continued support from all parties for the programmes organised by the local association, particularly those that promote unity among the multi-ethnic and multi-religious communities in Meradong and its surrounding areas.

“Through this occasion, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the association for its continuous efforts in not only preserving cultural values and traditions, but also strengthening the bonds and mutual understanding among the community,” he told reporters when met at the event.

Later, the assemblyman announced a Minor Rural Project allocation of RM5,000 for the association.

“We hope that this contribution would help the association plan and carry out more structured, impactful programmes set to benefit its members and the local community,” added Ding.
