MetMalaysia: Heavy rain in several areas in Sarawak tonight (Jan 28); continuous rain expected Jan 30–31

KUCHING, Jan 28: Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong and Sarikei (Pakan and Sarikei) in Sarawak tonight.

Anticipated weather conditions include thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds.

The warning, issued at 5.50pm today, remains in effect until 9pm.

“A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with a rain intensity greater than 20 mm/hour that is approaching or expected to last for more than an hour.

“A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a maximum of six hours per release,” it highlighted.

In a separate advisory, MetMalaysia also issued a continuous rain warning (alert) for various areas in Sarawak that is expected to occur on Tuesday and Wednesday (Jan 30 and 31).

Continuous rain is expected in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong, Sarikei (Pakan, Sarikei dan Meradong), Sibu (Sibu) and Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro dan Matu). The warning was issued at 6.25pm today.

Continuous Rain Warning (Alert) is issued when there are signs that rain/thunderstorms are expected to occur for more than six hours in that period in an area. — DayakDaily
