SELANGAU (July 7): The Mid Rajang Development Agency (MiRRDA) places a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, particularly road construction, said Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang.

He said a workshop convened recently to discuss development projects within the area, which encompasses regions under Tamin, Ngemah, Machan and Kakus.

Gira highlighted the critical role of road infrastructure in facilitating transportation and driving economic growth.

“A well-connected road network enables rural residents to engage in activities such as oil palm cultivation and other agricultural endeavours,” he said during a ‘Ngiling Bidai and Thanksgiving’ for Penghulu Busang Bedindang at Rumah Chandu, Kampung Keranji Madu in Selangau on Saturday.

Gira said he consistently raises development-related issues, particularly those related to roads during State Legislative Assembly sessions and noted the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development has greenlit three road projects in his constituency.

Gira also said education should remain a priority, as youths are future leaders, and urged all relevant stakeholders and agencies in the Selangau district to collaborate towards preventing drug abuse among youths.

He also said the Sarawak government will continue advocating for the state’s rights in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

During the event, Gira announced an allocation of RM26,000 to the Kampung Keranji Madu village security and development committee (JKKK).

Also present was Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol, who announced an additional RM10,000 allocation to the village’s Women’s Bureau.

The ceremony celebrated the appointment of Busang Bedindang as Penghulu in May. Busang, a retired teacher, now serves the Ulu Selangau, Ulu Mukah and Basai areas.
