KUCHING, March 24: The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has warned that it will block the identification card (MyKad) and bar vehicle owners from benefiting under the BUDI95 fuel scheme if they are found to be misusing the subsidy.
In a statement yesterday (March 23), MOF said it is taking seriously a viral video circulating on social media showing an individual filling RON95 petrol into empty containers at a petrol station.
“Investigations revealed that the individual involved is a Malaysian citizen and a MyKad holder. The act was deemed a clear violation of regulations, as it constitutes abuse of the subsidised fuel programme under BUDI95.
“Such actions have the potential to undermine the government’s efforts to ensure subsidy management remains transparent, targeted and effective,” the ministry said.
MOF stressed that enforcement action will be taken against those involved, including blocking the identification card used in the transaction and restricting the vehicle owner from continuing to benefit from the scheme.
The government, it added, will not compromise on any form of subsidy leakage or abuse, particularly amid current uncertainties that require tighter control over fuel supply and pricing.
“Enforcement measures will continue to be strengthened to curb irresponsible activities and safeguard public resources,” MOF affirmed.
At the same time, MOF expressed appreciation to members of the public who remain vigilant and report such incidents, urging continued cooperation in channelling information and lodging official complaints.
Those with information on suspicious activities related to subsidy distribution are encouraged to contact the Budi Madani Service Centre.
The ministry highlighted that every time a user refuels using BUDI95, the government bears a subsidy of RM1.28 per litre. Amid rising global fuel prices, it said the Madani government’s priority is to ensure that the people do not shoulder this burden alone. — DayakDaily
