MIRI (Oct 5): Persatuan Prihatin Masyarakat Miri (PPMM) will hold a community outreach programme for residents in Long San and Long Keluan, Telang Usan on Oct 11-12.

Taking place at Long San hall, the programme is in collaboration with Kelab Rekreasi Pendakian dan Perkhemahan Miri and supported by Miri Hospital, Department of Dentistry Miri, and Department of Fire and Rescue Zone 6.

Organising chairman Lee Jun Tak said the programme will offer various services to local residents such as health screening, dental check-up, hair-cutting, education assistance, food aid distribution, as well as fire safety and briefing.

“Through this programme, our goal is to meet the needs of the community and assist residents in the remote areas who face various challenges in their daily lives,” he said.

Adding on, Lee said the two-day community service will involve 80 participants, comprising healthcare workers, dentists, firefighters, barbers, sponsors and volunteers, travelling in 21 four-wheel-drive vehicles.

“The convoy will depart for the Long San hall here on Oct 11 at around 4.30am. The journey will take approximately six hours.

“On the first day, the convoy will visit SMK Temenggong Datuk Lawai Jau and SK St Pius to donate some learning materials and food aid. Fire safety demonstrations and briefing will also be conducted at these locations,” he added.

Lee also called for more youth to participate in volunteer work not only in Miri, but also in Kuching, Bintulu, Sibu and Limbang.

He believed that with joint effort, they can improve the livelihood of the rural community along with creating a friendlier and safer environment, while extending care and support to them.

Additionally, he thanked Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting, Miri MP Chiew Choon Man, sponsors and volunteers for supporting the initiative.
