MIRI (Nov 30): Police here are calling for witnesses of an apparent hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a senior citizen on Saturday.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the incident along Jalan Tanjung Lipat in Batu Niah is believed to have happened around 5.30pm.
“The deceased is a 63-year-old male cyclist who was heading from the Batu Niah Market towards Kampung Tanjung Lipat.
“He is believed to have been struck by an unknown vehicle travelling in the opposite direction and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Those who may have witnessed the incident may contact traffic investigation officer Insp Mohd Faizul Ab Rahim on 014-8582582 or 085-430479, or by approaching any nearby police station.
He also also advised road users to practise courteous driving and obey all regulations to avoid endangering other users.
