Miri FA defeated Sarikei 2-1 in the Sarawak Premier League

MIRI, 19 September: Miri FA team scored two points after defeating Sarikei FA 2-1 in Sarawak Premier League (SPL) 2026 at the Miri Open Stadium, here, this evening.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Educators Coach Pengiran Bala said that SPL is an important platform for identifying new talent, especially young players who have the potential to be promoted to higher levels.

According to him, the tournament also gives players room to gain competitive exposure after such a long absence of competition at that level.

"The SPL League is good for us to get talented players because it's been a long time since there was a tournament.

"So, this SPL is a competition where we can see the talent of young players who one day will be selected to represent either the state team or Kuching", he said when meeting with TVS, here today.

Reviewing Miri FA's performance, a 3-1 win over Kapit FA in the previous match showed some of the team's young players had the potential to continue to develop.

He said the Miri FA must maintain momentum in addition to exploiting its own site-specific advantage for maximum scores.

"Last SPL league, Miri won against Kapit and we can see there are some potential young players and hopefully tonight they will keep that momentum going.

If they can get maximum points, that's best because we want the advantage of playing on our own site", he added. - TVS
