MIRI (Feb 7): A total of 76 foreign nationals and one Malaysian were detained in a series of enforcement operations carried out by Miri Division Immigration Enforcement Unit between Thursday and Friday.

The integrated operation, conducted based on public information, involved a team of 30 officers and personnel who carried out inspections across Miri city.

Several locations suspected of being gathering points for undocumented foreign nationals were targeted.

During the operation, 17 premises were inspected, including construction sites, eateries, rented rooms and private residences.

According to a statement posted on the department’s official Facebook page on Friday, 185 individuals were screened, resulting in the detention of 76 foreign nationals — comprising 66 Indonesians and 10 Filipinos — for suspected offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

A Malaysian citizen believed to be employing some of the foreign nationals was also detained during the operation.
