Chiew says he is in the process of gathering detailed information on the severity of the floods, the number of residents affected, and the type of assistance required on the ground.
MIRI (Jan 9): With floodwaters rising in several parts of the city, Miri MP Chiew Choon Man has moved into monitoring mode — coordinating with agencies and gathering ground data to assess the full impact.
In a statement, Chiew said he is in the process of gathering detailed information on the severity of the floods, the number of residents affected, and the type of assistance required on the ground.
“At the same time, I have instructed the Department of Minerals and Geoscience to closely monitor hillside areas that are considered high-risk,” he said, expressing concern over potential landslides due to continuous rainfall.
He also urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, prioritise their personal safety, and comply with instructions issued by the authorities.
Chiew said further updates would be provided once more detailed information becomes available.
Affected residents may contact the Miri Division Operations Room at 085-416625, 085-322737 or 019-7311982 for assistance.
They may also reach the Miri District Office Operations Room at 085-414934 / 019-8149370 from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Meanwhile, Chiew said he has directed the Miri Parliamentary Service Centre to activate a Flood Hotline to facilitate reporting by those impacted.
The public may submit information on affected areas and victims via WhatsApp to 012-8520946.
