ADVERTISE HERE

Police and JPJ personnel apprehend some traffic offenders during the operation.
MIRI (Jan 2): Police seized 25 motorcycles and issued 40 summonses during an ‘Op Samseng’ here in conjunction with the New Year 2026 countdown.
The operation was carried out on Dec 31, 2025, starting at about 11pm and concluding at 5am on Jan 1, 2026.
It covered several locations identified as hotspots for illegal street racing and dangerous riding activities, including the Piasau residential area, Jalan Piasau, Jalan Pulau Melayu, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina and surrounding roads.
“These areas were frequently used by youths to test motorcycle speed and perform hazardous stunts such as ‘wheelies’, with Jalan Marina among the locations most prone to such activities,” the police said.
Led by ASP Thien Woon Cheng, the operation resulted in the seizure of 25 motorcycles, which were brought to the IPD Miri for further action.
Of the total seized, 12 motorcycles were detained under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987, while 40 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.
Police also advised parents to closely monitor their teenage children, particularly during festive seasons, to prevent them from engaging in illegal street activities or riding motorcycles without a valid driving licence.
