MIRI (Aug 19): Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin has called upon all pet owners here to have their pets vaccinated on a yearly basis as a preventive measure against rabies.

The state Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin made this call when visiting the Mass Rabies Vaccination, Dog Licensing and Microchipping programme at the Public Park here yesterday.

The programme by the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), he said, is part of the state government’s measures to raise awareness and educate pet owners, as well as to protect both humans and animals against rabies.

“In fact, I was told that between Jan and Aug this year, about 2,400 pet dogs have been vaccinated, thanks to the cooperation from the local residents and I hope they will continue to support this initiative,” said Lee, also the Senadin assemblyman.

The mass vaccination on Aug 17 and 18 at the Public Park here was the second time being held this month, and had managed to vaccinate a total of 250 dogs.
