MIRI (Oct 5): Some Shak Lung Kung Temple will be giving away a total of 9,999 packets of 10kg rice for charity at its premises at Lorong 9, Krokop here, from 8am onwards this Oct 6.
According to the temple’s Sea Dragon Master Ng Khien Ku, the charity drive is the temple’s initiative to provide relief to the impoverished and to promote compassion.
“We want to encourage the community to continue caring for the less fortunate, and this aligns with the spirit of compassion associated with the Nine Emperor Gods,” he said, while highlighting the Taoist teachings that emphasise on acts of kindness.
Ng extended his appreciation and gratitude to individual donors and local businesses whose generosity had brought the temple close to reaching its goal of 10,000 packets of rice for the event’s 10th edition.
The annual event marks the nine-day Taoist celebration beginning on the eve of the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar, said Ng, while welcoming devotees to offer incense to worship the gods during this festival.
