KUCHING (Sept 5): This month’s ceremony to raise the Sarawak flag Ibu Pertiwi will take place on Sunday at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi here.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is scheduled to officiate at this month’s ceremony.

“The Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony, which is held every month, is a sign of our respect for the symbol of Sarawak’s sovereignty,” said a statement shared by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today.

Ukas said everyone, particularly citizens, are invited to attend the ceremony.

“Ibu Pertiwi reflects the meaning of Sarawak’s sovereignty in addition to showing the greatness of the state of Sarawak with the red, black, and yellow state colours,” added Ukas.

On July 28, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony would be held on the first Sunday of every month.

He added that this monthly activity will serve as one of the attractions for visitors to the city.
