KUCHING (Jan 15): Head coach Aidil Shahrin Sahak has revealed that more new players are expected to sign for Kuching City FC following the recent signing of defender Muhammad Ariff Farhan Md Isa, as the team continues to strengthen for the remainder of the season.
Ariff officially joined Kuching City this week on Jan 12, and Aidil said the club is not stopping there, with several reinforcements already in the pipeline.
“We have two foreign players coming in to help us, and this is a good sign because it will allow the players in the squad to push one another,” Aidil said after Kuching City’s Super League match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in Iskandar Puteri last night.
Apart from that, he also revealed that the two foreign signings will come from different regions, with one player from Africa and the other from the Middle East, although he declined to disclose their identities.
“They are quality players and we want to bring in players who can really help the team,” he said.
Aidil also hinted at the possible arrival of another local player, depending on the club’s financial situation, adding that the player is currently plying his trade overseas.
“Maybe another local player, but that depends on our budget. The only clue I can give is that he is a local player who plays overseas,” he said while also stressing that the player is not from JDT.
On the fitness of new arrivals, Aidil said the coaching staff is taking a cautious approach, especially with players who have only recently joined training.
“One of the players (Ariff) only trained with us for two days. We don’t want players to come in and get injured straight away. We need at least one or two weeks to assess their condition,” he said.
He explained that some players had not trained with a team for nearly a month before arriving, making it important to manage their workload carefully in order to avoid injuries.
He also said that the arrivals of new players would further strengthen the squad as Kuching City targets a strong finish to the 2025/2026 Super League season and the upcoming Malaysia Cup.
