PUTRAJAYA (Jan 5): Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Chiew Choon Man received his first comprehensive briefing on the ministry’s operations and strategic direction on Sunday.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac), the briefing session was conducted by Deputy Secretary-General of Tourism Chua Choon Hwa.

Chiew, who is also Miri MP, was appointed following the Cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last December, marking his debut in the federal ministerial role.

During the session, Chua briefed the new deputy minister on the vision, mission and overall direction of the national tourism sector under Motac.

The briefing also featured presentations from five divisions and three agencies under the tourism sector, outlining their respective functions to ensure the national tourism industry remains on track.

The ministry said the session was particularly essential as 2026 has been designated as the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign year.

The comprehensive briefing forms part of standard procedures to familiarise newly-appointed ministers with their portfolios, as well as the ministry’s ongoing initiatives and priorities.
