KUCHING, Mar 27: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) is in discussion with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to review the most appropriate and reasonable measures to address challenges and stabilise the tourism industry.
According to Motac Minister, Dato Dri Tiong King Sing, this was in response to current international developments, particularly the pressure faced by the country’s tourism industry.
“I have instructed the ministry to immediately conduct comprehensive engagement sessions with tourism industry players, including those from the tourism transportation sector and related services, to gather first-hand information and obtain industry feedback.
“This is intended to gain a deeper understanding of the actual situation faced by industry players, including cost pressures, operational impacts, and potential losses, so that any measures formulated truly meet the needs of the industry,” he said.
Tiong, who is also the MP for Bintulu and assemblyman for Dudong, said in this process, the MoF has also expressed support for the adjustment efforts being undertaken and will assess the overall level of impact as well as the scope involved, based on data and information submitted by industry stakeholders, in order to enable more targeted solutions to be developed.
At the same time, he called on parties within the related industries to remain rational and prudent in the current situation and not take advantage of the circumstances to raise prices or pass on unreasonable costs, which would further burden the public and the market.
“Malaysia’s economic development has long been built on stability and mutual trust. We must appreciate the achievements that have been built together.
“In facing external challenges, we must remain united and continue working together to support the leadership of the Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, including all mitigation measures being implemented, rather than weakening one another,” he said.
He added that the government always prioritises the wellbeing of the people and the stability of industries.
All related measures, said Tiong, will be introduced in stages after thorough assessment and careful consideration, to ensure the continued operation of the industry while maintaining stability and sustainable national economic development. — DayakDaily
