MIRI, Oct 6: A 56-year-old local man was killed after the motorcycle he was riding lost control and plunged into a drain near SL Cafe in Miri Sentral on Oct 4.
In a statement, Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the fatal accident occurred at about 6.30am along a straight stretch of road near SL Cafe.
He said police received a report that the motorcyclist was travelling from Miri Sentral towards Jalan Cahaya when he was believed to have lost control of his vehicle.
“The motorcycle is believed to have veered into the opposite lane before skidding and falling into a 1.5-metre-deep drain,” he said.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Miri Hospital medical assistant at about 7.39am.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police have urged anyone with information on the accident to assist the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigating Officer Insp Nor Afifah Nordin at 019-5264640 or 085-430479, or any nearby police station.
Mohd Farhan also advised road users to practise safe and courteous driving and follow traffic regulations to avoid endangering themselves and other road users. — DayakDaily
