Motorcyclist killed in crash along Jln Kwong Lee Bank near Tanah Putih clinic

KUCHING, Mar 31: A motorcyclist was killed in an accident that occurred along Jalan Kwong Lee Bank in front of the Tanah Putih health clinic here on Monday (Mar 30).

In a statement, Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that in the 8.40am accident, the motorcyclist lost control of the vehicle due to the slippery road surface before veering to the left side of the road and colliding with the rear of a car that was stationary in the left lane waiting at a red traffic light.

“The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel at approximately 9.10am,” he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction.

Anyone with information regarding the accident is urged to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigating Officer, Inspector Mohd Rashdan Rosli, at 013-6204758 or 082-259900 or to go to the nearest police station.
