KUCHING (March 19): A pipe leak at the Jalan Simpang Tiga intersection here has caused water to overflow onto the roadway, prompting Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Southern Region) to advise motorists to exercise caution when travelling through the area.

In a statement today, the company said the incident involved a 12-inch steel iron (SI) pipe, believed to have been affected by ongoing construction works carried out by a contractor for the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.

It stressed that water supply and pressure to residential and commercial consumers remain unaffected.

However, the overflow has resulted in water spilling onto parts of the road, which could pose hazards to motorists, particularly during peak traffic hours.

The company said the situation is being closely monitored, with remedial works underway to address the issue as swiftly as possible.

“Motorists are strongly advised to reduce speed when approaching the affected area, remain alert to potential road hazards, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles,” it said

“They are also urged to comply with temporary traffic management measures, including following instructions from flagmen and observing all warning signs placed at the site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” it added

The company reminded the public that safety remains the top priority, and cooperation from road users is crucial in preventing accidents.

Expressing regret over any inconvenience caused, the company thanked the public for their patience while remedial works are being carried out.
