MIRI: Officers from the Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) have been stationed in every division across Sarawak to ensure the smooth running of the Malaysia Games 2024 (SUKMA) said State Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

Speaking during a brief visit to the Miri Indoor Stadium on Sunday (Aug 18), Lee said this is to facilitate the athletes’ journey and ensure a seamless experience during the games.

“In Miri, we are hosting six events, including silat, karate, softball, fencing, sailing, and rugby. Our officers are on the ground to coordinate every aspect, ensuring that athletes can focus on their performance without worrying about logistical challenges,” Lee said.

The minister was witnessing the opening of the Pencak Silat event alongside Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development II Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat.

This year, a total of 15 teams, including one from neighbour Brunei Darussalam, are competing in the Pencak Silat category for SUKMA 2024.

Lee highlighted the extensive planning that has gone into organising the event, including the preparation of buses, trucks, and other vehicles necessary for the transportation of goods and athletes.

“This is a task that requires careful planning, and so far, I am satisfied with how SUKMA is progressing,” he added.

Reflecting on his previous experience in sports management, Lee noted, “As someone who has previously been in charge of sports, and having served as a chef de mission three times (for Sarawak), I understand the complexities involved in organizing such a large-scale event.”

The efforts by MOTS and other stakeholders are seen as crucial to the success of SUKMA 2024, which brings together athletes from across the nation and beyond.
