MIRI (March 8): Those celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year are reminded to uphold moderation and avoid overspending amidst the ongoing global economic uncertainties.
In giving this advice, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni acknowledged the importance of festive celebrations, but any spending should be undertaken prudently as the present global situation, including tensions in the Middle East that could affect oil prices, posed impact on markets and the cost of living.
“Celebrate Hari Raya in a moderate manner.
“Buy what is necessary, and avoid unnecessary spending,” said the Sibuti MP at Miri Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society’s ‘Hari Raya Aidilfitri Charity Goodies Giveaway’ here on Sunday.
At the event, a total of 100 underprivileged families received Raya assistance, aimed at easing their burden ahead of the celebration.
Adding on, Lukanisman commended Che Lee Khor for its continuous efforts in helping the community, noting that it had been carrying charity-focused activities over the past 14 years.
Later, the federal deputy minister announced a contribution of RM10,000 to the organisation.
Among those present were organising chairman Hong Ken Lian and Penghulu Betty Pong.
