KUCHING (Feb 18): Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee has urged the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) to step up awareness programmes in high-risk areas to educate villagers and fishermen’s associations on crocodile threats and essential safety measures.

She made the call during her visit to the search-and-rescue (SAR) operation site at the Batang Sadong Bridge in Sadong Jaya, where she consoled the family of a victim believed to have been attacked by a crocodile.

The victim, Mohd Faizal Abdillah, 29, from Kampung Rangawan, was reportedly attacked at about 11am yesterday while catching shrimp with a friend as the water level receded.

He was allegedly attacked and dragged away by the reptile.

The SAR operation involved several agencies, including the Sadong Jaya Subdistrict Office, Royal Malaysian Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), and SFC.

Also present at the site was Rafendy Ariffin, special officer to the Simunjan assemblyman. The N25 Simunjan assemblyman’s service centre contributed food and drinks to support SAR personnel throughout the operation.
