KUCHING, Nov 16: The journey from Stutong roundabout to Intan roundabout in Kota Samarahan now takes only half an hour, according to Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos.

Minos attributed this improvement to the recent completion of the last two traffic lights at two roundabouts in Kota Samarahan, both of which are now operational.

“It took me just half an hour to drive between the two places, whereas it could take up to three hours before this. What a great relief it was for the people of Samarahan. The daily massive traffic jams at the roundabouts are gone,” he stated in a release today.

Minos expressed gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the traffic lights project in 2017 and for providing the necessary funds, including support for the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project in Samarahan.

“Now, it is for all involved to support Sarawak Metro on the ART. It is ongoing and will be completed by the end of 2025. By then, Samarahan will have the best urban traffic system in Sarawak. You cannot ask for more,” he added.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas visited the two roundabouts earlier today and took the opportunity to switch on the traffic light systems at one of the roundabouts. — DayakDaily
