KOTA SAMARAHAN, April 30: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) removed and seized stalls, canopies and other items placed in unauthorised locations during an enforcement operation on Wednesday (April 29), targeting obstructions that disrupt the layout and safety of public spaces.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the operation was carried out across several locations within MPKS’ administrative area as part of a firm effort to strengthen enforcement against misuse of public areas.

It aimed to curb activities by individuals or traders who leave business equipment and goods in prohibited locations, which not only create clutter but also pose safety risks to the public.

During the operation, MPKS confiscated a range of items, including two stalls, canopies, gas cylinders, chairs, and other merchandise found to have been placed without approval.

The council said the enforcement action is necessary to ensure public spaces remain orderly, safe and free from obstructions, while ensuring that all business activities comply with guidelines and regulations set by the local authority.

MPKS also reminded the public, especially traders, to adhere to existing rules and obtain prior approval before conducting any business activities in public areas.

It added that monitoring and enforcement efforts will be intensified from time to time to ensure a high level of compliance, in line with efforts to create a more organised, conducive and sustainable urban environment in Kota Samarahan. — DayakDaily
