KUCHING (Sept 5): Nine award-winning students have been selected by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and China’s Haikou University of Economics and Business for a four-year exemption scholarship.
MPP in a statement said the students and their parents, who were accompanied by MPP councillor Amy Tnay, arrived yesterday for enrolment in the university in Haikou, Hainan.
The students are Ricky Tang Wei who will be studying marketing, Eric Voon Jin Sheng (hotel management), Eason Leong Yik Shen (environment design), Chong Ting (financial management), Luna Chia Ze Qian (broadcasting and television editing directing), Chen De Rui (broadcasting and television editing directing), Zona Ko Ang Joo (financial management), Veniss Bong Jun Qi (broadcasting and television editing directing), and Eileen Chai Ee Ling (journalism).
Tnay thanked the Hainan provincial government and Haikou University of Economics for providing MPP with the exemption scholarship quota every year.
“Since 2019, the Padawan Municipal Council has assisted Haikou University of Economics and Business in selecting local students to obtain the four-year exemption scholarship, now in the sixth year.
“In the past six years, 44 local students have been recommended to study at the university, of which 14 students who enrolled in 2019 and 2020 have since graduated,” she said.
Also present to send the students off at Kuching International Airport were Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang and Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 principal Lee Chi Peng.
