KUCHING (Dec 31): The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has decided to allow a maximum of six entertainment premises to operate at Block D of MJC Batu Kawa here.

Its chairman Tan Kai said in a statement that the decision was made by the Market, Licensing and Enforcement Standing Committee and subsequently endorsed at the full council meeting on Tuesday, after taking into account the need to ensure fair treatment for both surrounding residents and businesses.

“As the block currently hosts several entertainment premises, MPP is determined to ensure that nearby residents and businesses are not adversely affected by entertainment activities carried out in the area,” he said.

Tan also reminded applicants for entertainment licences within the MPP jurisdiction to conduct their operations responsibly to help maintain a peaceful and harmonious environment in commercial areas.

He stressed that MPP will continue to implement improvements and closely monitor entertainment business activities to ensure a balanced and win-win situation, where businesses can operate while residents and neighbouring establishments are able to go about their daily lives without disruption.
