KUCHING (Jan 20): The Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) is ready to assist Sarawak in realising its aspiration of becoming a new semiconductor industry hub, in line with the state’s strong potential and strategic advantages, its president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai said.
He said the association has taken a proactive step by leading an industry mission to Sarawak to provide industry players with first-hand insight into the state’s capabilities and readiness.
This initiative, he said, is aimed at building confidence among companies to consider Sarawak as a viable destination for long-term investments in the semiconductor sector.
“MSIA feels that we have a responsibility to support both the country and Sarawak, which has clear aspirations to become one of the important semiconductor hubs at the global level.
“The opportunity is certainly there to be realised,” he said, according to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
He said this during a doorstop interview after MSIA’s meeting with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan here on Monday.
Wong noted that direct industry engagement, including site visits and dialogue sessions, is crucial in helping companies gain a clearer understanding of Sarawak’s overall ecosystem, particularly in terms of infrastructure, energy supply and policy support from the state government.
He added that the continued rapid expansion of the global semiconductor industry presents significant opportunities for Sarawak to position itself within the industry’s value chain, contributing to sustainable economic growth at both state and national levels.
“MSIA is ready to share its industry experience and expertise to support Sarawak’s aspiration to emerge as a new semiconductor industry hub,” he said.
