KUCHING (Dec 28): Muhammad Fadhlullah Mohamed Ameenudeen emerged champion of the Final Move 2025 Kuching Chess Blitz Challenge held at Pustaka Negeri here.

He took home a RM200 cash prize.

First and second runner-ups were Fam Yii Fui and Eric Wong Tee Kiing, who walked away with cash prizes of RM150 and RM120 respectively.

Fourth to fifth place went to Isabella Salsabella Ishak and Morsin Ahmad, who both won RM100, while sixth place to eighth place was awarded to Hii Shieng Shun, Hii Shieng Jie and Brilliant Chiew Zhi Cheng, who each won RM80.

Supplementary titles of ‘Best Under 18’, ‘Best Under 12’, ‘Best Veteran’, ‘Best Para Player’, ‘Best Government Servant’ and ‘Best Lady’ were awarded to Clement Ung Chee Cheng, Jonas Lee Sze Hao, Pieter Henderikus Kruit, Muhd Adib Rusydan, Abang Abdul Rauf Abang Zen, and Tammy Wong Tee Siew respectively, with each winning RM80.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang officiated the event, which was organised by the Kuching Division Chess Association and Pustaka Negeri.

Lo said that chess teaches players patience, discipline, and strategic thinking—skills that extend far beyond the chessboard into daily life.

“In chess, every decision matters, as in life. Learning this at a young age helps build character and maturity,” he added.
