Visvanathan delivers his talk.
MIRI (Jan 25): Parents would be held legally responsible should they allow their children, especially those underage, to ride motorcycles without a valid licence.
In highlighting this, Miri Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Division school liaison officer Insp G Visvanathan Guna Cekeren also advised parents to always monitor their children’s movements at night and check their motorcycles to ensure that the machines had not been illegally modified.
“Police action would be taken against parents in cases involving offences and penalties under the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in his session during a road safety awareness programme at SMK Taman Tunku last Saturday.
The event, which was attended by 680 parents, highlighted the importance of possessing a valid driving licence, ways to avoid traffic congestion during peak hours, and the enforcement actions under Op Samseng Jalan conducted by Miri traffic police every weekend.
Also present were SMK Taman Tunku principal Jennifer Kaya, and the school’s parent-teacher association chairman Jawan Marinda.
