LAWAS (Oct 3): The progress of the new 76-bed Lawas Hospital project is on schedule and is expected to complete by June next year.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said as of Sept 30 this year, the progress of the construction was at 84.66 per cent.
“We have two main projects in Lawas, namely the Lawas Hospital and a type three Health Clinic.
“However, there are some issues that have been raised by the contractor that we will resolve in relation to those that require the cooperation of the local authority,” he told the media after attending a briefing on the project today.
He said among the issues were manpower and the rising cost of building materials of up to 28 per cent, but added that this should not be an obstacle to completing this project.
Despite this, the Sibuti MP said he is overall satisfied with the progress of the project.
“So far, some of the specialist doctors are already in Lawas, while some have been temporarily placed at the Miri hospital,” he said.
The RM228.17 million minor specialist hospital project, which started in June 2020 was approved under 10th Malaysia Plan.
