SEBUYAU, April 9:The construction of the road connecting Sebuyau to Lingga, spanning about 30 kilometers, is in its final stages and is expected to cut travel time between the two towns to just 30 minutes.
In a TVS news, Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi added that the Lingga Bridge along this route has already been fully completed, which further enhances connectivity in Sarawak’s coastal region.
“Furthermore, the construction of a second trunk road in the Sebuyau area is also progressing actively to strengthen regional connectivity.
“This road will link several major routes, including Simunjan and Betong, and connect to the coastal road, positioning Sebuyau as a key junction,” he said during a press conference at the Ministry’s Aidilfitri Open House 2026 at Sebuyau Development Hall today.
According Julaihi, these infrastructure projects have transformed Sebuyau from a previously hard-to-access area into a location easily reachable by land at any time.
“The developments have also contributed to upgrading Sebuyau’s status from a small district to a full district with its own administration,” he added.
Julaihi also noted that the Batang Lupar Bridge, which spans approximately 4.8 kilometers across the river, is also on track for full completion by May and is slated to open before the Gawai festival.
He explained that the entire project, including approach roads from both Sebuyau and Triso, stretches roughly 10.8 kilometers.
“God willing, this bridge will be completed before Gawai, and an early opening will be held as announced by the relevant ministry,” he said.
He expressed hope that the new roads and bridges will continue to drive economic growth and improve the well-being of local residents. — DayakDaily
