MIRI (March 22): A family of nine had a narrow escape after their home at Tudan Desaras was partially damaged in a fire late Saturday evening.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a distress call was received at around 9.29pm, and a team of firefighters from Lutong Fire Station was immediately deployed to the location, about 17km away.
Upon arrival, the team found that a single-storey wooden house measuring approximately 30 feet by 30 feet had been 20 per cent damaged by the fire.
Due to the severity of the situation, a team of six firefighters from Lopeng Fire Station, along with two personnel from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was also deployed to assist.
“During the operation, the team deployed two hose lines, each 100 feet in length, with two nozzles to control the fire drawing water source from a nearby fire hydrant,” it said.
The fire also destroyed two vehicles, but fortunately no injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the incident and total losses is still under investigation.
After ensuring that the fire was fully extinguished and that no remaining ignition sources remained, the firefighters returned to the station at around 11.40pm.
