No truth to social media claim on sick projects

BETONG: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has rubbished a recent social media claim that there are still 340 sick and 40 critically sick projects in the state.

“We have done much to drastically reduce the number now to just two or three,” he said to the media after meeting PBB youth committee members at Rh Kelimbang in Penyulok, Ulu Layar here Saturday.

“We have also put in place new regulations to nip this in the bud,” he said, adding, “we have acted against contractors who had failed to deliver to show we mean business.”

Uggah who is PBB vice president earlier addressed youth members on the statewide ‘santai’ visit programme led by Machan assemblyman Allan Aiden Gramong.

He said the programme is beneficial as it would allow them to collect feedback from the ground with regard to the people’s expectations, hopes and frustrations over development programmes and project implementation.

“You will be in the know if the various programmes or subsidies and educational and welfare aids from the government reach the target groups.

“We must not be deaf to any grouses. They can become issues in the next state election,” he said.

In this regard, Uggah said he wanted the committee members of the programme to help in monitoring the implementation of rural transformation projects in their respective areas to ensure their completion according to schedule and quality.

“You will be doing a very good service to the people and to Sarawak. We all want to stop sick or critically sick projects from happening again,” he said.

In another development Uggah called on PBB Youth committee members to help recruit more members for the party.

“The future is going to be very challenging and full of uncertainties. But by having more new members, we can help to fortify and keep the party relevant.

“The efforts in this direction must be continuous and committed,” he stressed.
