SIBU (Jan 10): Incessant rain has affected the progress of the Ulu Sungai Merah road upgrading project here, particularly the stretch from Lorong 18 to Lorong 12.

This was discussed during an update session between State Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak Datuk Michael Tiang and the contractor-in-charge, Walter Toh, on Friday.

Tiang, in a statement, said that asphalt paving works would be carried out on the affected section once the weather condition had improved.

“Once weather conditions improve, the contractor will immediately resume the works, complete the stone base and proceed with asphalt-paving to improve road conditions and traffic flow,” said the Pelawan assemblyman.

Tiang said with school reopening and the anticipated high traffic volume, he urged the contractor to expedite the works.

“Also, I call upon all road users to exercise patience and understanding, as the project is still ongoing.

“My service team will continue to closely monitor the progress of the project and provide updates to the public when necessary,” assured the deputy minister.
