KUCHING (Aug 9): The official mobile app for ‘Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024′ will give the public the latest news and real-time results of all Sukma events, said Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said the app is now available for download on both Android and iOS devices.

“This app is equipped with several menus such as the schedule, results, overall standings and medal tally,” said he told a press conference after launching the app here today.

To ensure real-time results are accurate, Abdul Karim called for human error to be minimised when the secretariat manually inputs the data.

He added the app will also be equipped with shortcuts to TVS for the public to watch live telecasts of selected sporting events.

Of the 37 sporting events for Sukma XXI, 20 will be telecast live on TVS and RTM.

When asked about the cost to develop the app, Abdul Karim would not disclose the figure.

“We are not really interested in the cost, what we want to see is efficiency and on top of that everything runs smoothly,” he said.

He also said he has been asked how much is needed to hold Sukma in Sarawak.

Despite the huge costs, he said what is important is that the state can host one of the most successful editions of the games as well as see Sarawak’s athletes giving their best.

On the Sukma Command Centre, which started operations today, he said it would remain open until Sept 28 for the Para Sukma.

“This command centre is for the secretariat to monitor all 50 sporting venues throughout the nine divisions in the state,” he explained.

The Command Centre will be able to monitor athletes’ logistics, accommodation, volunteers, and food schedule via the Games Management System, he said.

“This Command Centre will also be showing live telecasts of selected sporting events,” he added.
