One-meter deep sinkhole appears at SK Satria Jaya in BDC, no injuries reported

KUCHING (Oct 3): A one-meter deep sinkhole was reported at SK Satria Jaya, Taman BDC here today.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the sinkhole occurred at the corner of one of the school’s classroom blocks.

The department received a distress call from the school at around 1.39pm before dispatching firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya station to the school.

“Upon arrival, the team reported that a sinkhole had occurred at the corner of the classroom building, measuring 6×6 feet with an estimated depth of one meter.

“There was also cracking in the school’s cement drainage. No casualties were reported,” said Bomba in a statement.

The department said firefighters only monitor the area as safety barriers had already been set up by teachers before they arrived.
