Op Pintas: Kuching cops nab elderly woman to assist in human trafficking probe, rescue two foreigners

KUCHING (Oct 11): A 64-year-old woman has been arrested to assist in the investigation of an alleged human trafficking and smuggling case.

Kuching District Chief Police ACP Mohd Farhan Lee said the woman was arrested during Op Pintas at a house in Jalan Chawan here at around 6pm on Oct 10.

During the operation, the police also rescued two foreign women aged between 20 and 30, believed to be victims of forced labour.

The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (Atipsom) 2007, which provides for a jail sentence of up to 15 years and a fine upon conviction, said Mohd Farhan.

He also urged the public who have information about forced labour by calling the Kuching District Police Control Center at 082-244444 or report to the nearest police station.
