Ops in Kuching nets 86 illegals as Immigration Dept targets nightclub, various sites

KUCHING (March 13): The Immigration Department arrested 86 illegal immigrants for various offences during an integrated operation here on Wednesday and Thursday.

The department said the operation began at a construction site in Muara Tebas followed by several food premises in Pending Heights believed to be conducting online gambling.

“There were 64 individuals arrested and some of the immigrants are suspected to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 such as not having valid travel documents and staying beyond the permitted period,” the department said in a Facebook post.

The operation then targeted a nightclub, where another 22 illegal immigrants from China, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, and Indonesia were detained.

All those arrested were brought to the Immigration Depot for further investigation and action in line with the provisions of immigration law.
