KUCHING (Feb 14): A total of 248 kilogrammes of waste were collected during the Kampung Tupong Tengah Gotong-Royong Perdana Programme, highlighting the strong cooperation of the local community in keeping the environment clean.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, the initiative underscored the importance of community-driven efforts in maintaining cleanliness and promoting environmental sustainability, while also strengthening ties between the local authority and residents.

Organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) in collaboration with Kejiranan Mesra N6 Tupong, the event was held at the Kampung Tupong Tengah community hall from 7am.

Activities began with an aerobics session to energise participants, followed by a briefing on the clean-up operations.

A symbolic flag-off ceremony then marked the start of the litter collection and beautification efforts.

The programme involved not only local residents but also students from i-CATS University College and pupils from nearby primary schools, who actively participated in cleaning the village area.

The initiative also aimed to cultivate a culture of cleanliness and civic responsibility among the younger generation, fostering harmonious living within the community.

The gotong-royong (work party) was officiated by Political Secretary to the Premier and Tupong assemblyman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

Also present were Kuching North Datuk Bandar Dato Hilmy Othman, DBKU director Ramzi Abdillah, and Kampung Tupong head Penghulu Ramden Putit.
