Padungan workers aged 40-59 urged to screen early, free health checks set for Sept 26

KUCHING, Sept 15: Padungan workers aged 40 to 59 can undergo free health screenings on Sept 26 as part of efforts to promote early detection of potential health risks.

The PERKESO SEHATi Health Screening Programme, organised by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Youth Central, will be held from 8am to noon at the Kuching Community Social Support Centre (CSSC).

The programme is open to eligible Malaysian citizens and formal sector workers aged 40 to 59 who reside or work in the N9 Padungan area. No prior appointment is required.

In a statement, SUPP Kuching Branch Youth chairman Cr Nicholas Wung Duk Ying said health screening was a simple but important preventive measure, particularly as some health conditions may not show obvious symptoms in their early stages.

He also urged family members and friends to remind one another about the importance of regular health checks and maintaining healthy lifestyles.

The screening will cover blood tests, blood sugar and HbA1c, cholesterol, urine tests, physical examinations and health risk assessments.

Participants are advised to fast for eight to 10 hours before the screening, although plain water is permitted during the fasting period. Comfortable clothing is also recommended.

The programme was officially launched today at Ghee Hwa Motorpol Sdn Bhd and is organised in collaboration with Yayasan Pengguna Negara Malaysia and the Sarawak Consumer Welfare Association, with support from Alpro Clinic.

PERKESO Sarawak director Tan Phang Chia was represented at the launch by Sujina Bahing and Tony Sylvester Sigat Ladi.

Also present were Sarawak Consumer Welfare Association publicity director Winston Chang Ming Yap, Alpro Clinic Metrocity physician Dr Velentine Anderson Moses, Ghee Hwa Motorpol Sdn Bhd representative Derrick Law Yew Hock, and Kapitan Lucas Yong Kuet Chung. — Dayakdaily
