KUANTAN (July 10): The Pahang state government has pledged to accept the offer to co-host the 2027 SEA Games, especially hockey, since the state is equipped with excellent facilities to host the sport.
State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-governmental Organisations Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said in order to turn the aspiration into reality, he would present the proposal to the state exco soon.
“In terms of infrastructure, I am delighted to offer our facilities to host hockey but we will also look at what other requirements are needed. I feel we are capable, however, the proposal must get the approval of Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after meeting athletes preparing for the 21st Sukma in Sarawak, especially players from rugby and lawn bowls, at the Pahang Sports Council, here today.
Pahang becomes the fourth state to accept the offer of co-hosting the 2027 SEA Games since Sarawak, Penang and Sabah have already expressed their interest earlier.
Speaking of the Pahang contingent’s preparations for the Sukma 2024 to be hosted by Sarawak from Aug 17 to 24, Fadzli said he went down to the ground to check on the preparations carried out by 22 sports associations that will be representing Pahang in the Sukma.
“There is still room for athletes to prepare themselves. However, in their eagerness to chase for medals, we have urged the council to monitor the athletes closely to ensure they are not injured.
“So far, the number of Pahang athletes shortlisted to take part in 36 sports hosted by the host during Sukma is 560 and they will be gathered at a camp in Kuantan for three days as the final phase of training before the flag handing ceremony on July 25,” he said. – Bernama
