BAU, April 24: The ecotourism destination Paku Rock Maze Garden is set to take centre stage with the upcoming “Revisiting Paku Rock Maze Garden” programme, scheduled from April 30 to May 3.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Serembu assemblyman Dato Miro Simuh said the programme is designed to showcase the natural beauty and distinctive geological landscape of the Paku area, which is among Bau district’s key tourism attractions.
“Over the four-day event, various activities have been carefully planned to share valuable insights on environmental awareness and appreciation.
“Beyond promoting the programme itself, we also hope to encourage more visitors to come and experience the natural treasures we have here,” he said at a press conference on Thursday (April 24).
He added that the initiative aims to further establish Paku Rock Maze Garden as a sustainable, community-driven tourism product, while also strengthening economic opportunities for locals in Bau.
Miro also underscored the importance of Community-Based Tourism (CBT), which involves close collaboration between Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and local authorities.
“This approach ensures that development benefits and economic opportunities are directly channelled back to the local community,” he said.
He noted that Bau is richly endowed with natural attractions. In addition to Paku Rock Maze Garden, visitors can also explore Paku Hot Spring, Fairy Cave, Wind Cave, Tasik Biru, Gumbang Cultural Centre, and Siniawan Town.
“All these efforts are undertaken to ensure that the benefits of tourism development are returned to the community,” he added.
Miro said Paku Rock Maze Garden currently attracts about 1,000 to 2,000 visitors monthly.
He explained that the “revisit-driven” programme is aimed at attracting both returning and new visitors through refreshed, community-led activities.
He also invited the public to take part in the programme and discover the diverse attractions available throughout the Bau district. — DayakDaily
