LIMBANG, 11 Oct: Balance residents are urged not to neglect paying assessment tax to the Balance District Council (MDL) to ensure maintenance of public facilities and delivery of services runs smoothly.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development of Sarawak, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the tax suspension could affect road maintenance work, parity system, waste management and environmental cleanliness.

According to him, the KPI of MDL's estimated tax rate is set at 90 percent, but current achievements are only 80 percent.

"Among the MDL services include cleaning locks, roads and so on, it's not free. That's why they charge you a tax deduction.

"This means that the Balanced population is still lacking in taxation. This Mountain Day party was held to promote the services provided by MDL", he said.

Member of the National Assembly (ADUN) Bukit Kota said this during his speech at the inauguration of the 19th edition of Bukit Mas Day Festa 2026, today.

He was present representing the Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

In attendance were MDL Chairman Sufian Mohat and MDL Secretary Michelle Hildalyne Jering Anthony Luta.

Abdul Rahman said the payment of taxes by fixed deadline helps MDL to plan finances, improve infrastructure and ensure that urban areas as well as housing remain clean, comfortable and safe.

He also urged the MDL to improve management efficiency, strengthen monitoring and take immediate action against population complaints.

At the same time, he praised MDL's efforts to maintain cleanliness and beauty of Balance and organized various programs through the Central Festival Committee of Balance Region which continues to attract outsiders every year.
